U Thong National Museum, Suphan Buri

#VisitMuseum The history of the establishment of the U Thong National Museum began in 1903 when His Royal Highness Prince Damrong Rajanubhab, when he was the Minister of the Interior, inspected Suphan Buri and surveyed the ancient city of U Thong, which was found to be an important ancient city with historical and archaeological value. Archaeological excavations led to the discovery of many Dvaravati period artifacts. In 1965-1966, the Fine Arts Department built the U Thong National Museum building to store and display artifacts from archaeological excavations, with the gracious grace of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother. His Majesty presided over the opening of the U Thong National Museum on May 13, 1966. The U Thong National Museum is divided into 3 main exhibition buildings: Building 1 will display a permanent exhibition about the ancient city of U Thong and Dvaravati culture; Building 2 will display a permanent exhibition about the Suvarnabhumi region and the maritime trade route; and Building 3, the Lao Khong house, will be a replica of the ancient house style that is unique to the Thai Song Dam people.
