[2025 Addis Ababa Airport] Travel Guide for Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (Updated Jul)

When traveling to Ethiopia you need a tourists visa. It is valid either for 30 days and costs 62$ or for 90 days and costs 162$. Please note: It is a single entry visa. There are 2 ways to get the visa: 1. Upon arrival in Addis-Ababa 2. Online through the official governmental website I recommend you to make it online which will save your time upon arrival. Documents needed for visa submitting: ✅ Recent passport-size photo 2’’*2’’ ✅Passport of the visa applicant should be valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of entry to Ethiopia. ✅when filling out the internet form you will also need the hotel information Payment is made through the online system as well. Another recommendation: print out your visa and hotel confirmation - you may be asked about them when passing through immigration and passport control. Well, the first stretch from Chicago to Addis Ababa was amazing. Got to witness the beautiful high rise buildings in Ethiopia. The transit was somewhat a bit too much with kids but all in all, it’s a beautiful city and airport.

I recently took flight ET506 from Addis Ababa to Sao Paulo in economy class. There is quite a lot of legroom and each seat has an interactive screen that has movies, tv and the flight information too. We were served two meals (one after take off and another before landing) and there is also wifi available on board. There are free amenity kit with socks and toothpaste/toothbrush. The boarding of the flight was quick and efficient and the cabin crew were available at all times for information that was needed. Free pillows and blankets were also offered. The airline also offers duty free products on board too

I don’t know about you , but I’ve never seen or heard of this before! It sure doesn’t look appetising but you need to try it! The foundation of the vast majority of Ethiopian meals is injera, a giant gray spongy pancake-like bread, upon whose strangely rubbery surface are served an array of foods, including multicolored mounds of spicy stews, vegetable curries and cubes of raw meat. A cuisine encompassing the flavors of the old East African spice trade, Ethiopian food is deliciously unique, fragrant, and mostly spicy. Its depth of flavors has made it very popular internationally.

I recently had an early morning layover in Addis Ababa and wanted to share my experience. We landed at 6.30am and got a bus to the terminal. The security check was quick and the terminal has quite a number of restaurants, bars and coffee shops as well as massage places and free wifi. There is a good pharmacy and duty free too.
