Arco da Rua Augusta, located on the north side of Commerce Square facing the Tagus River, is a magnificent triumphal arch at the entrance to Augusta Street. This gate was built to commemorate the restoration of Lisbon after the 1755 earthquake and was completed in 1873. There is actually an observation deck here, but it is not well known, so it is a surprising hidden spot in Lisbon, with few people even during the day. As it is a new observation deck, there is an elevator. It has a relaxed atmosphere and you can get a panoramic view of Commerce Square, the bridge over the Tagus River, and the cityscape of Lisbon, so I recommend it. Please go and see it. I'll recommend some places to visit in Lisbon and nearby cities that I've been to while traveling😍 If you're planning a trip to Portugal, especially Lisbon, be sure to read this:) 📍Places to visit in Lisbon - Miradouro de Santa Catarina / An observatory overlooking the Tagus River. It's hip because there are a lot of young people. - Praça do Comércio / If you go to Lisbon, you must visit the wide Praça do Comércio. The Augusta Street Arch Arco da Rua Augusta is a really cool square! - Santa Justa Elevator Elevador de Santa Justa / You can see the whole city of Lisbon at a glance. (6 euros, pay on site) - Alface Hall Jazz Bar / If I had to name the best place in Lisbon, it would probably be this jazz bar.. I went there every day during my two trips. - R. Augusta Street / This is a street that leads to Plaza de la Comécio, and there are many shops, souvenir shops, and delicious cafes. - Café da Garagem / A cafe with a really great view. The price of coffee is good value for the great view. Coffee + nata (egg tart) = about 4 euros. - Restaurante Cabaças / If you go to Lisbon, you should go to Cabaças every day... It's a local Portuguese restaurant with delicious steak!! There might be a wait, so go quickly!! - Miradouro das Portas do Sol Viewpoint / An observation deck with a great view of the orange rooftops of Europe! The pictures are also really pretty:) - Eduardo VII Park / It's the largest park in Lisbon. It's great for a leisurely walk. Dogs run around and it's a really relaxing place. - Tram photo zone: Bica - Lg. Calhariz A place where you can capture the Bica Line funicular view beautifully. It's especially famous for the tram number 28 view. / Elevador da Glória A steep alley that goes up to the Alcantara observatory! It's short, but you can see the funiculars going up and crossing each other. - Belem District: If you want to learn about Lisbon's history, you absolutely must visit the Belem District..! Make sure to set aside a day to visit. ✔️Recommended places / Tower of Belém, Jerónimos Monastery, Monument to the Discoveries of Belém, Pastéis de Belém (egg tarts are delicious..) 📍Recommended places near Lisbon - Cascais / I visited this place because I wanted to visit a special resort other than the places that everyone visits. It's a 30-40 minute train ride from downtown Lisbon. It's such a beautiful resort that locals go swimming every weekend. There's also a place where you can wash up, so you can get a tan and swim on the beach :) ✔️Recommended places: Praia da Rainha Beach, Pedra da Nau Cliff - Cabo da Roca: The land's end village of the Eurasian continent, Cabo da Roca! It's a 50 minute bus ride from Sintra & Cascais, so it's a good place to visit when you're traveling to Sintra or Cascais. It's the westernmost part of the continent, so it feels mysterious. The sea is also really pretty, so visit it when you travel to Lisbon! Lisbon is recommended for a leisurely trip, staying for 3 nights and 4 days at the shortest, or 5 nights and 6 days at the longest. It is a hip city with a different charm from Porto. We chose the popular restaurant with a panoramic view, Café da Garagem, as our first meal. We recommend that you arrive before the restaurant opens, otherwise you might encounter long queues. Fortunately, we sat on the "throne" by the window that day, enjoying delicious light meals while overlooking the iconic red-tiled roofs of Lisbon and the Tagus River - so beautiful! After lunch, we walked to the nearby Miradouro da Graça, which is a great place to enjoy a panoramic view of Lisbon. Next, we headed to the very interesting Feira da Ladra (Feira da Ladra) Market. This flea market is only open on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The stalls are filled with antiques, handicrafts and second-hand groceries. It is a treasure hunting paradise full of surprises. If you’re keen on discovering unique finds, remember to plan your trip in advance and don’t miss this charming market! Walk down from the Women's Thieves Market to Beco do Maldonado Street. This hidden alley is covered with colorful graffiti and is perfect for walking and taking photos. Every corner can capture the unique beauty of Alfama. Next, we arrived at the famous #MiradourodeSantaLuzia, where the tiled murals and the vast views of the Tagus River are fascinating. Even though there are many tourists, it does not feel crowded or uncomfortable, but rather a lively atmosphere. Continue walking along the alley and you will arrive at #LisbonCathedral (Sé de Lisboa). This imposing Romanesque building is one of the oldest churches in Lisbon. The most classic scene in front of the church is to press the shutter while waiting for the tram to slowly pass by. Everyone must take a picture. After sightseeing, it’s time to get into shopping mode! The first place I recommend is Conserveira de Lisboa, a century-old store specializing in canned fish. The canned food here is not only fresh, but the packaging design is also retro and exquisite. It is definitely the best choice for gifts or as a travel souvenir. From there, it’s about a 10-15 minute walk to the lively city centre. At dusk, the sunset glow over the #MainSquare (Praça do Comércio) and the #TagusRiver dyed the entire sky golden, which was particularly charming. Also, don’t forget to check out the Arco da Rua Augusta and the surrounding arcades. The final meal ended perfectly with Arroz de Marisco at Uma Restaurant. The risotto here is rich in ingredients and has a rich broth. You can taste the freshness of the seafood in every bite. The portion is huge and you will definitely feel full. Plaza Comercio is a historic public space in the heart of Lisbon, surrounded on three sides by the Ayuntamiento, a majestic building. The walking time is about 4 hours, and it is very pleasant to walk and stop.

The Arc de Triomphe on Augusta Street is a stone historical building and tourist attraction in Lisbon, Portugal. It is located in the commercial plaza to commemorate the post-disaster reconstruction of the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.  Originally designed as a clock tower, the building has six columns 11 meters high and is decorated with statues of various historical figures. In the middle is the Portuguese national emblem. But after more than a century of delay, it eventually became a carved arch. The top group image was created by the French sculptor Celestan Anatoly Calmels. Since the top mouth is up to 30 meters, the characters on it must be huge.  The woman in the middle is 7 meters high, representing glory, standing on the throne of the third floor, holding two crowns, crowning virtue and genius on either side. There are four statues on the top of the column, the two on the right represent Nuno Alvarez Pereira and the Marquis of Pombal. On the left are Da Gama and Veriato. Two reclining figures symbolize the Tejo River and the Douro River.

I went to Praca do Comércio and Arco da Rua Augusta. They are both symbols of tourism in Lisbon, but they are both close to each other. The Augustan Gate is quite large, and I recommend taking a walk from here to the famous Rua Agusta. Flew from Toronto to Lisbon, Portugal on June 18th, arriving at 9:30 in the morning, and immediately went to explore Lisbon. Took the metro to Cais do Sodre, and right out of the subway 🚇 is the bay, from where you can see the 25th of April Bridge connecting the north and south banks of the Tagus River in the distance. Walking along the sea wall, there are people sitting on the coast enjoying the gentle sea breeze and the sun, and there are artists' works on the beach, embellishing the coastline. Then I arrived at the Freedom Square, where there is a statue in the center, and behind it is the triumphal arch. This beautiful monument has six columns, decorated with statues of various historical figures. It stands tall on the Commerce Square, symbolizing the city's resilience and paying tribute to the reconstruction of Lisbon after the earthquake in 1755. Passing through the triumphal arch is the Augusta pedestrian commercial street, with its unique blocks filled with modern cafes, restaurants, and street art, blending the modern and traditional flavors of Lisbon. I bought two Portuguese egg tarts and a cup of tea, sat down to taste them; the tart crust is crispy, and the egg is full, soft, and smooth. It's a bit sweet for me, but I think it's very good 👌. Walking to the end of the street is a square, where I encountered an elevator for sightseeing. Opposite the elevator is a MUJI store, and further on is the Liberty Avenue, a boulevard shaded by green trees, which is known as the Champs-Élysées of Lisbon.
