Dishui Lake is the man made body of water at the tip of Shanghai province and currently is under a huge redevelopment. If you zoom in on the tip of Shanghai on your map you'll find a perfectly circular lake and that's the destination of choice for the ride we took. Getting to Dishui lake from downtown Shanghai is a simple enough ride, but it will involve a ferry journey (Mask and transport code/card). There are multiple crossings of the Huangpu river, but my preference in the crossing at the bottom of Fuxing road. From there you'll need to navigate about 8/10km south through traffic and generally people not worrying about you safety. After that you'll reach farmland, clear roads and completely flat terrain bar a few bridges, until you get to your destination. Dishui Lake is very close to a container shipyard, so do mind that you don't end up on a path to gigantic vehicles and metal boxes. There are plenty of stops for drinks and snacks in most of the route, but they become more scarce in the farmland stretch. About 25/30km. if you use Baidu maps you can locate the Gas stations and stores if required.

If you are looking for a place to enjoy the western foods with perfect lake view in Shanghai, Kiwaina Dishuihu is recommended. It located beside the lake walking path of Dishuihu lake (south part of Shanghai city). This restaurant is very clean and tasty. We have ordered some Italian pizza, spaghetti seafood, grilled chicken and Kiwaina salad with topping with some Kiwi fruit, it is perfect combination. This place has rest room, which is quite convenient especially for kids. In the afternoon they also have afternoon tea set, I like cappuccino coffee here very much. If you are going around the Dishui lake you might find very areas of shadow (desperately, in a very hot summer morning) and rest. This scenic spot is the best in all Dishui Lake China Masters Theme Sculpture Park. This spot gives you the whole view of the lake and a nice view of Dishuihu West Island (although is under construction and we were not able to enjoy it that much). It has a public bathroom, extremely important if you’re walking around this area. We found lots of people taking pictures, eating ice creams and children playing freely. This is the major shadow spot, so most people stays around here. Kiwiana restaurant it’s not only located within the Lingang New City Main Urban Area City Park (for some reason, this area has a very long name and it’s divided in units), but has this amazing view of the lake. This New Zealand style restaurant is an amazing option to explore, restaurant architecture and ambience is beautiful. Also, it’s located among the area of sculptures, so you can go for a walk after your meal. We didn’t eat here because of time, and My companion’s reluctance to try foreign food. Plates are big, ambience is calm and try to give an old Beijing city impression (according to my Chinese friend). Although, we found the noodles to be a bit salty. Considering this area is still under construction, you find many empty buildings or relatively expensive restaurants, therefore this is still a good option near the lake. For an amazing one-day trip near the city, come to Dishui Lake. Lingang area is located in Southern coast of Shanghai. With an area of 2.5km diameter, Dishui is the largest artificial “freshwater”lake in China. However, you can smell the salt in the air, probably due to beach proximity fresh and salty water mixture was inevitable. Did I mentioned the beach is also a couple kilometers away to make this day a full summer experience? Or to consider staying for the weekend. It looks like the Dishui lake area is a new development. It's not crowded at all on weekdays. At least there were only a few people when I was there. If I live here I definitely would run long distance there because the lake is big, the ocean air is fresh, the view is beautiful and it's quite abandoned.
