Fort York was built in 1793 to defend against an American water attack, completely destroyed in the Anglo-American War in 1812, restored in 1931 and listed as an Important Historic Site, and opened to the public in 1934. At present, it is the relatively complete original memorial site of the American-British War in Canada. You can see equipment storage, cannons, and stone walls left over from the war. Every summer, a tour guide dressed as a 19th-century British soldier will explain historical stories to you, or you can pretend to practice it yourself. In addition, Fort York regularly hosts many social events, such as cooking classes, open-air concerts and birthday party planning.
