On a rainy afternoon, I came to Jingci Temple by the West Lake, but unexpectedly encountered the most poetic Hangzhou. Compared with the hustle and bustle of Leifeng Pagoda, there are few tourists here. Only the rain hits the eaves, the bells ring through the forest, and the deep sound of the evening bell of Nanping spreads in the wet air, instantly washing away the impetuousness. The ancient temple in the rain curtain has a unique style. Climb the steps along the central axis to the Sakyamuni Hall, lean on the railing and look into the distance. Leifeng Pagoda is looming in the rain and fog, the West Lake turns into a misty ink painting, Su Causeway and distant mountains are hazy into the painting, as if you are in the Song Dynasty poetry scroll. In the corner of the temple, vines grow wildly, and wild azaleas are wrapped in water droplets and bloom wantonly. The "disordered beauty" that no one trims collides with the flying eaves and brackets, just like the whispers of Buddhism and nature. Electronic candles replace the smoke of incense burners, making the hall more quiet; watching the rain under the eaves and watching sparrows jump over puddles, I suddenly realized the Zen of "life should be simple". What is hidden here is not only the story of Jigong, but also the soul of the misty Jiangnan.

The grounds are beautifully maintained, with willows swaying gently and koi ponds adding to the calm atmosphere. It’s not too crowded, and walking through the halls felt like stepping into a different calm. 2. Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area West Lake truly lives up to its poetic reputation. The entire area is just serene. Misty waters and stone bridges felt like a live painting. I strolled along Su Causeway during sunset and just stood there soaking in the stillness. It’s a place that makes you slow down without even trying. 3. Leifeng Pagoda A stunning spot to enjoy panoramic views of West Lake. Best time to go? Late afternoon, when the sky starts to turn gold. 4. West Lake Port Fish Garden Unexpectedly one of my favourite spots. It’s more than just fish pond but a whole garden experience. Mesmerizing to watch, especially surrounded by flowering trees and winding paths. I sat on a bench and just listened to the birds. So calming. Come early in the morning for a quiet stroll. 5. Jingci Temple Tucked at the foot of Nanping Hill, Jingci Temple offers a serene space for reflection, with soft chants in the background and the scent of incense in the air. The temple is less crowded than others, which makes it even more peaceful. The halls are understated but elegant, and the views from the temple grounds look out gently toward West Lake. It’s a place that feels spiritually grounding, even for someone just passing through. I left feeling lighter and quieter inside. 6. Lingyin Temple Lingyin Temple stood out as a true sanctuary. Nestled amidst lush hills and ancient trees, the temple exudes a quiet spiritual energy that immediately slows your pace and clears your mind. Because of the loud sound of the temple bell, "Nanping Evening Bell" has become one of the "Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake". Jingci Temple has therefore become an important part of the "Nanping Evening Bell", one of the "Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake", a national key cultural relic protection site, and an important heritage element of the Hangzhou West Lake cultural landscape. On the way to Leifeng Pagoda, I passed by Jingci Temple and was attracted by its golden appearance. I could also see the whole picture of Jingci Temple from the Leifeng Pagoda. Visitors can pay to ring the bell, so the temple will ring the bell from time to time🔔 We climbed all the way to the highest point of the temple and could see the Leifeng Pagoda opposite.

Leifeng Pagoda is located on Sunset Hill on the south bank of the West Lake scenic area. It is China's first color copper-carved pagoda, originally built in 977 during the Northern Song Dynasty. After several reconstructions, the current structure, designed based on the original Leifeng Pagoda, was rebuilt in 2002. Leifeng Pagoda is not only one of the Ten Scenes of West Lake but also carries a rich history, cultural heritage, and touching folk tales, such as the story of the White Snake and Xu Xian from the Legend of the White Snake. First, view Leifeng Pagoda from a distance on the Su Causeway, then head to the scenic area. On weekends, while contemplating whether to take the elevator up the tower, the long queue for the elevator was enough to discourage the attempt. Climbing two observation decks via the stairs offered a bird's-eye view of West Lake and the Jingci Temple opposite (last picture). The scenery is stunning.
