It was spiritual and festive at once. The temple’s grandeur and tranquil atmosphere made it the perfect place to start the day with reflection. Next, I explored the Toshiba Science Museum—a hidden gem that surprised me with its interactive exhibits showcasing Japan’s role in shaping the future of technology. It’s perfect for curious minds and families traveling with kids. But what truly set Kawasaki apart for me was the Kawasaki Warehouse Arcade, once a cyberpunk dream inspired by Kowloon Walled City (sadly closed in 2019, but still legendary). That edgy spirit still lives on in local nightlife, themed bars, and innovative art spaces. For nature and culture, Ikuta Ryokuchi Park offered peaceful walking trails and the Japan Open-Air Folk House Museum, where I wandered through traditional farmhouses relocated from across the country—an immersive way to experience history. It’s not just a city between two giants—it’s a destination with its own beat, a place where history, innovation, and everyday life pulse together.

#springwander Opened in 1967, it is an open-air museum of ancient private houses that represents Japan. 25 cultural property buildings, including private houses from the Edo period, have been relocated and exhibited, and you can see houses built about 100 to 300 years ago and Kabuki stages. Some of the old private houses have a fire in the hearth, and you can experience the old way of life in Japan. The spacious park is also recommended for a walk, and you can enjoy the nature of the four seasons, such as cherry blossoms and fresh green in spring, and autumn leaves in autumn.

Kawasaki Municipal Japanese Folk House Garden is home to about twenty-five traditional old houses, which are said to have been relocated from various parts of Japan. There are over twenty ancient houses inside, and two or three of them are open for visitors each day. During my visit to one of the houses, I met a friendly Japanese lady who was explaining things in simple Chinese and English. It's actually a very photogenic place, and I really like it here.

#japantrip Way cooler than I anticipated and it only cost 500* at the gate per adult to enter. A little indoor museum to show how building were made and how communities worked together and then a large open entire historical town to walk through with everything you could expect from houses from rich families and working families, little stores, mills, farms, each with it own story and history. The walk back we took an accidental route though a working indigo dye shop and walked down through the forest, it was stunning. A wonderful activity!
