Next time you plan your trip, come here to eat and drink!
Explore Kanazawa's most famous fish market
Founded during the Edo period, Omicho Market has been an integral part of Kanazawa's food culture for over 300 years.
This sprawling market is home to more than 170 shops, including a large number of fishmongers selling fresh seafood caught from the Sea of Japan. There are also fruit and vegetable stores selling local specialties, seafood stores, clothing stores, sundry goods stores, and restaurants.
Crabs, yellowtail, and shrimp from the Sea of Japan start to be sold around November and are particularly popular. Because of this, the market is usually packed with tourists and local citizens at this time of year.
Another important attraction of the market is the Omicho Market Hall. The renovated building houses many popular restaurants and shops, which are worth a visit on the way to the market.
Special Recommendation:
1. 🍽️「Standing Drink」‼ ️
The dining environment of "IPUKU Yokocho" is like a food court. The store adopts a free seating system. You must first secure a seat, and then go to each stall to order and pick up food. In addition to tables and chairs, there are also high tables where you can experience the Japanese-style "standing drinking" and eat and drink while standing. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, and there is no pressure to chase customers into queues.
Just remember to return the tableware after enjoying your meal, just like in Japanese food courts!
2. 「Hamayaki Shichifukumaru」🦞🐚‼ ️
Seafood bowls are sold in places famous for their seafood in Japan, but many people cannot enjoy them because they are afraid to eat them raw.
"Hamayaki Shichifukumaru" (#浜焼き 七福丸) is a restaurant that caters to customers with different needs by using two cooking methods: charcoal grilled food (Hamayaki) and mixed sashimi and seafood bowls.
The "Hamayaki" stall at the door is filled with fresh oysters, scallops, turbans, and clams. Just buy the ingredients you want from the food coupon machine and the chef will grill them for you on the spot.
Ingredients grilled over charcoal have a light charcoal aroma and a rich ocean flavor, and you can taste the elasticity and richness that only fresh food can have!
3. Kanazawa Oden IPPUKUYA: Special ingredients soaked in soup stock‼ ️🍢🍢
The flavor and ingredients of oden vary from place to place. The characteristic of Kanazawa oden lies in the deep and elegant broth. The oden ingredients are soaked in the broth, and the broth naturally flows into the mouth and melts when you bite it, warming your body and mind! The soup stock of "Kanazawa Oden IPPUKUYA" is carefully prepared every day with kelp, dried fish, etc., and is added with red rolls, shrimp, and bakudan (boiled eggs wrapped in fish paste) selected from handmade fish cake shops in Omicho Market, as well as grilled tofu, thick slices of fried tofu, and deep-fried tofu carefully selected from handmade tofu shops. In winter, there are also limited edition crab noodles, original shrimp noodles, black throat fish noodles, and other oden ingredients that are not usually available on the market.
