Penarth - Tranquil Victorian Seaside Charm Just Minutes From Cardiff
if you’re visiting Cardiff you need to make time for Penarth, it’s a beautiful Victorian town on the coast that’s full of charm and small town character. Built on the wealth from the coal mining boom this amazing town has street after street of stunning Victoria architecture, broken up with parks, churches and small high streets. It’s a world away from cardiff a more relaxed vibe, it’s more of a family town and is one of the most desired commuter towns.
The main attractions are :
Penarth pier and Waterfront, A gorgeous Victorian pier recently restored with lottery funding. It has a cinema, coffee shop and small gift shops. The icon of the town!
Penarth Marina - an addition during the 90’s that offers nice views of Cardiff with some small eateries too.
Cosmeston Lakes and Country park - just 5 minutes out of penarth this is an old quarry that’s been turned into man made lakes and a beautiful country park.
Penarth town center - the hub is the town, full of Victorian charm with arcades, coffee shops and a few Welsh speciality shops. Worth the visit!

Perfect Penarth
Penarth is an absolute delight for a stroll! Starting from the charming Victorian Pier, with its grand pavilion and stunning views across the Bristol Channel, you can wander along the Esplanade. The colorful floral displays are beautiful, and there are plenty of benches to stop and admire the scenery. Head up into the town and explore the independent boutiques and cafes on Windsor Road, or find a quiet spot in Alexandra Park to enjoy the panoramic vistas. It’s a wonderfully accessible and picturesque walk, offering a perfect blend of coastal beauty and quaint town charm.

Penarth Pier, A Beautiful historical Seaside gem
Penarth is a beautiful seaside town and luckily my hometown, growing up here was amazing during the summers and it’s so nice to come back for a visit.
The seafront has a long calm beach and the beachfront is lined with shops, restaurants and bars - newer independent coffee shops are also starting to appear.
The highlight of the seafront is the Pier, built in 1898 it has become an iconic landmark for penarth and wales as a whole. The pier used to be a dock for steam boats that would cruise up and down the Bristol Channel.
After a multi million pound refurbishment in 2013 the pier is now a big social hub for the area, the pavilion contains a cinema, cafe and ice cream parlours.
It’s a great place to take in the views or relax with a coffee, it’s dog and family friendly and it’s good for all weathers!
📍Address: Penarth seafront, Wales
