#summervacay This time at Konigssee, I caught it on a cloudy day. The clouds and mist wrapped the lake in a delicate veil. The water stayed crystal clear, but took on a dreamy blue-green hue — like a quietly flowing painting. 🚤 As the boat reached the lake’s center, the captain performed a magical “horn echo” — blowing his trumpet toward the surrounding valleys. Moments later, the clear, ethereal echoes bounced back, as if the whole lake was responding. That moment felt unbelievably magical and so romantic. ⛪ First stop was the iconic red onion-domed St. Bartholoma Church — its bright red dome striking against the lush green mountains and clear water. 🚤 Continuing to the final stop at Salet, the deepest part of Konigssee, I found a hidden gem. A 15-minute walk from the dock led me to Obersee, a secret lake so still it mirrored the sky perfectly — the reflection was unreal. St. Bartholomew's Church is the iconic landmark of Königssee. Located on a peninsula along the western shore of Königssee, the church is small yet exquisite, renowned for its unique design. Its red onion-shaped domes and the semicircular apse of the chapel are divided into three symmetrical sections. Originally built in the 12th century, the church later evolved into a Baroque-style structure. The chapel is named after Saint Bartholomew, one of Jesus' twelve apostles. Adjacent to the church is the namesake hunting lodge, constructed alongside the church in the 12th century. Today, it operates as a small restaurant, often fully booked by visitors eager to dine there. Nearby, there is an exhibition hall that explores concepts related to water, ice, snow, and the dangers of avalanches, promoting environmental awareness. Visitors can also enjoy walking trails along the lake, offering views of forests, distant mountains, and the vibrant play of colors on Königssee under the sunlight. That day we took a boat across Lake Königssee to reach the church. The environment along the way was quiet and the scenery was beautiful and spectacular. During the boat ride, when the captain passes the "Echo Wall" on Lake Königssee, he will play music on a trumpet or trombone, allowing passengers to listen to the echoes reverberating between the cliffs. This is a famous performance on the Lake Königssee cruise, which adds a lot of fun to the St. Bartolome Church that we are about to arrive at. San Bartolome Church is a very representative local religious and tourist landmark. The most recognizable feature is its three hemispherical red onion domes. I heard everyone call it the "Red Onion Church", so I followed suit and it feels very cute. After visiting the church and nearby scenery, we went to a local restaurant to eat "smoked trout" dishes, which were quite delicious.
