Teshima is located in Kagawa Prefecture, Shikoku. It is a small and beautiful island. It is famous for its modern art and natural scenery. It takes about an hour to get there by ferry from Takamatsu Port. The island is not big, but it gives people a sense of seclusion and tranquility. We rented an electric bicycle as soon as we got off the boat. We first visited the Toshima Yokoo Museum, where the works of Yokoo Tadanori are displayed. The colorful and imaginative artworks in the museum left a deep impression. Teshima Art Museum was designed by Ryue Nishizawa and artist Rei Naito. Its architectural appearance is like a drop of water quietly sitting on the hill. It is highly recommended to go in. You need to make an appointment online in advance. As its name suggests, this small island is rich enough to be self-sufficient on the island, with pure spring water, crops, rice, and fish. Teshima was hit by pollution caused by illegal dumping of industrial waste that continued from around 1978. Pollution on an unprecedented scale, fish could no longer be caught, children suffered from asthma, and negative rumors continued for several years. I was tired from cycling around Teshima, so I took a break. I had a cafe at the Seaside Restaurant. This restaurant is located along the coast and has a great view. The pizza is apparently delicious, so they brought it to me fresh from the handmade oven. Yokoo Tadanori also has art works on display in Teshima. I had some time before the return boat from Ieura Port, so I went in. In the previous Yokoo World, he incorporated primary colors into the old houses as much as he could. I took a ferry to Teshima in Kagawa Prefecture. It took about 40 minutes from Takamatsu Port to reach Ieura Port. It can also be accessed from the opposite shore, Okayama Prefecture. A local told me about it in the morning, so I rented a bicycle and went to Teshima Espoir Park for a morning cafe. It just opened last year. #summervacay Okay, Teshima Art Museum in Kagawa is honestly unlike anything I’ve ever been to. It’s not your typical museum with paintings or sculptures, it's literally just this massive white, dome-like space in the middle of nature. Super minimal, super quiet, and weirdly emotional in the best way. Inside, there's pretty much nothing... except water slowly moving across the floor in the gentlest, most hypnotic way ever. Sounds kinda boring? Nope. It’s insanely calming and weirdly beautiful. You just sit there barefoot, watching water do its thing, while light and wind flow in through these open holes in the ceiling. Time seriously feels like it stops. The whole island has an artsy, peaceful vibe, but the museum is the real soul-hitter. It's more like an experience than a museum. No photos allowed inside, which somehow makes it feel even more special. If you’re into slow, deep, quiet beauty, this one’s gonna hit you right in the feels. Total must-visit.

The owner of the guesthouse strongly recommended that we ride bicycles up the mountain to enjoy the cherry blossoms. It takes about 30 minutes to ride an electric bicycle from Ieura Port. The cherry blossoms lining both sides of the road are quite beautiful. At the top of the mountain, there is a small observation deck where you can overlook the Seto Inland Sea.

I just bought early bird tickets for 2025 and reminisced about 2019, the last trip before the pandemic. In November, there weren't many tourists, but I met a group of charming architects from Shanghai while island hopping. We explored several spots together. #Itinerary SharingToshima was an unexpected surprise on this trip. From Takamatsu to Toshima, there is only a high-speed ship, which is very small, even smaller than the high-speed ship from Takamatsu to Naoshima. If you are seasick, you will definitely vomit/::T Toshima has two main ports: Ieura Port and Karako Port. From Takamatsu, you arrive at Karako Port. There are buses after getting off the ship, and you can also rent bicycles, but the number is very small. We didn't rent a car, so we took the bus🚌. If you take a ferry from Tonosho Port in Shodoshima, it only takes 30 minutes to reach Ieura Port in Toshima. After arriving at the port, you can also rent an electric bicycle and start a trip around the island. That is to say, if you don't rent a car at Karako Port, you can take a bus to Ieura Port to rent a car. There are very few people coming from Shodoshima. On our return trip, we took a ferry from Ieura Port to Shodoshima first, and then returned to Takamatsu, so there was no backtracking. The Teshima Art Museum is the highlight of this trip.
