The most famous tourist spot in Teshima. Teshima Art Museum requires a reservation with a specified time, so please be careful when visiting. The Teshima Art Museum is about 20 minutes away by rental bicycle from Ieura Port. There is a lot of uphill from the port to the museum, so an electric bicycle is recommended. Tickets to the Teshima Art Museum are purchased on a pre-reservation system. The museum's cafe is a style where you sit on a carpet. There are not many seats, so be considerate of others and arrive early. In May 2025, we had the chance to visit the art islands in Japan during the Setouchi Triennale, a contemporary art festival held every three years across various islands in the Seto Inland Sea. The main islands we explored were Naoshima and Teshima, both home to fascinating museums. We started our journey at Uno Port, where ferries are available to both islands. We spent one day on each island, but if you have more time, we recommend dedicating two days to Naoshima and one day to Teshima. Naoshima has an abundance of intriguing art installations that are impossible to fully appreciate in just one day. For museum visits, it’s best to book tickets in advance from your home country. As for outdoor art installations, you can simply walk around and enjoy them. 📷

#summervacay Okay, Teshima Art Museum in Kagawa is honestly unlike anything I’ve ever been to. It’s not your typical museum with paintings or sculptures, it's literally just this massive white, dome-like space in the middle of nature. Super minimal, super quiet, and weirdly emotional in the best way. Inside, there's pretty much nothing... except water slowly moving across the floor in the gentlest, most hypnotic way ever. Sounds kinda boring? Nope. It’s insanely calming and weirdly beautiful. You just sit there barefoot, watching water do its thing, while light and wind flow in through these open holes in the ceiling. Time seriously feels like it stops. The whole island has an artsy, peaceful vibe, but the museum is the real soul-hitter. It's more like an experience than a museum. No photos allowed inside, which somehow makes it feel even more special. If you’re into slow, deep, quiet beauty, this one’s gonna hit you right in the feels. Total must-visit.

Seto Inland Sea Island Trip Based at Uno Port in Okayama, I traveled around the artistic islands of the Seto Inland Sea 🎨 Teshima Art Museum in Teshima. Located on a small hill in Karato, Teshima, overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, the Teshima Art Museum is a collaboration between artist Rei Naito and architect Ryue Nishizawa. The museum was built on a former terraced rice field that was revitalized with the help of local residents. In one corner of this vast site, a building shaped like a water droplet was erected. This concrete shell structure, measuring 40 by 60 meters with a maximum height of 4.5 meters, has no pillars. Two openings in the ceiling allow the surrounding wind, sound, and light to enter directly, creating an organic space where nature and the building interact. Inside, a 'spring' emerges throughout the day, reflecting the infinite expressions of changing seasons and the passage of time. Although the Seto Inland Sea International Art Festival will open in April 2025, the island hopping in the Seto Inland Sea this summer is really unforgettable.
