Personally, I think these issues are forgivable. Honestly, at ¥299 per room voucher, it’s a steal. This hotel is perfect for those who love photography, design, or quirky experiences. If none of that appeals to you and you’re picky about accommodations, I’d skip it. Why are so many rushing to stay in a newly opened hotel, despite the formaldehyde concerns? I was drawn in by the aesthetic— and in person, it’s just as photogenic as the pictures, with every shot turning out great. I found it totally worth it and even stocked up on a voucher for a year-end revisit. The odor is strong, so I’d advise choosing a higher floor and sleeping with windows or balcony doors open. If you’ve bought a voucher but are worried about the smell, aim for a year-end booking. If you haven’t bought a voucher yet, maybe wait a year or two. Not into the hotel’s vibe or photography? It's understandable that this newly opened B&B couldn't fully handle the Labor Day rush, so I stayed for two days before Dragon Boat Festival to share my honest experience. I wouldn't compare it to chain hotels. I'd rather describe it as a 12-floor photography studio with sleeping facilities. During this trial operation period, the commercial area downstairs and rooftop garden aren't open yet, but breakfast and afternoon tea are available. Amenities include disposable items (towels, bath towels, toothbrushes, combs, toothbrush cups, and drinking cups). Rooms are cleaned daily, and the front desk staff provided excellent service. When we reported a drain odor issue, they immediately offered to change our room, though we didn't switch due to too much luggage. Each room comes with a commemorative "River of Time" coin that can be kept or exchanged for new products/ice cream. We stayed in the "Dune Viewing King Room" which has a balcony (though no bathtub🛁). The lobby has a cinema, reading area, breakfast restaurant, and laundry room with 4️⃣ washers and dryers (which get crowded between 8-10pm), plus ironing equipment. The "River of Time" hotel in Huzhou has been getting a lot of buzz online recently, with mixed reviews. Here's my honest experience, for reference only. 📍The location is excellent. It's only a 5-minute walk from Huzhou Railway Station. The convenience alone makes it worth traveling just to stay at this hotel. I stayed in a large suite in the castle. It was very spacious. You could run laps in the room. However, the new hotel smell was quite strong (to be honest). The toiletries were from Atelier Cologne (amazing, a top brand, and they smell great). The towels and bath towels were all disposable, and there was no floor mat towel (which was a bit inconvenient). The hotel is very photogenic. I took some very casual photos this time, and I didn't bring the right clothes. If you wear a bohemian-style outfit, you can take a set of exotic photos (for my sisters' reference).
