AlUla is a city in northwestern Saudi Arabia, located 1,100 kilometers from the capital Riyadh. There are a few daily trains leaving Riyadh to Dammam. You can take an early morning train, and come back the same day late at night, as I did. Ride takes about 4h one way. Trains are newer type, comfortable enough, some even with a table. They serve some light snacks and drinks on board and you can also pre-order a meal. Tickets should be bought on line and I do recommend at least 3 days in advance as trains are usually full. I booked it two days before and managed to reserve one of the last few still available. Dammam is still growing, but for sure have it on your to do list. Cornish is for sure the place to visit, and the markets around the Marina mall. Getting around is easy enough with a bus, but you do need a bus card. Taxi and Uber is readily available.
