Hidden Aesthetic Café in JB: Why We Keep Going Back to Keijometo

#springitinerary This JB day trip started with a visit to Keijometo, and honestly, we couldn’t have picked a better place to ease into the morning. Tucked away in a quiet corner of Jalan Chengai, this Japanese-inspired café is known for its striking concrete interiors, raw industrial charm, and minimalist wabi-sabi vibes. Stepping inside felt like entering a quiet art space — moody, calm, and beautifully understated. We kicked things off with the mentaiko tamago sando — thick, fluffy layers of tamago paired with a rich, savoury mentaiko mayo, all tucked between soft milk bread. It was creamy, umami-rich, and incredibly satisfying without feeling too heavy. Next came the truffle carbonara udon, a creative East-meets-West fusion dish that totally hit the spot. The udon had the perfect bite, coated in a silky, indulgent carbonara sauce with just the right hint of truffle, and topped with an onsen egg that brought everything together. For something sweet, we went with the houjicha basque cheesecake — and it was everything we hoped for. Smooth and lightly creamy, with a deep roasted tea flavour that wasn’t overly sweet, making it the ideal pairing for our drinks. Speaking of which, the strawberry matcha drink was both beautiful and refreshing. The slight tartness of the strawberry balanced out the earthy bitterness of the matcha, creating a layered sip that was as enjoyable as it was photogenic. Keijometo isn’t just a cafe — it’s an experience. From the thoughtful design to the well-curated menu, it’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down, soak in the ambience, and savour the little things.
