Hong Kong on Foot: Iconic Landmarks and Flavorful Streets

#favouriteitinerary #travelanywhere Our journey through Hong Kong was an immersive dive into the city’s vibrant pulse, where every street corner and every bite revealed something unique. We began our day with a leisurely walk through the bustling streets of Yau Ma Tei, where the rhythm of city life unfolded before us. The area, with its colorful market stalls and the enticing aromas of street food, offered a true taste of Hong Kong’s lively atmosphere. The buzz of local chatter and the neon glow of storefronts added to the rich tapestry of sights and sounds that define this part of the city. A standout moment came when we stumbled upon the Alhambra Building, a striking red landmark at the corner of a busy street. Originally built in 1934 as a cinema, this iconic building is now an intriguing mix of vintage charm and practical design, showcasing the essence of mid-20th-century Hong Kong architecture. As we stood there, the building seemed to tell a story of a bygone era, while its surroundings, with a mix of old and new elements, added a sense of nostalgia that perfectly captured the spirit of Hong Kong. For lunch, we sought out a local cha chaan teng, a beloved Hong Kong institution. The no-frills diner was everything we had hoped for: a bowl of instant noodles, generously topped with savory ingredients, accompanied by a fluffy, golden omelette and a simple sandwich. Each bite felt like a comforting embrace of local flavors, and the rich, creamy Hong Kong-style milk tea was the ideal partner to the meal, balancing its sweetness with a satisfying, velvety texture. Afterward, we wandered to a nearby Chinese dessert shop, where we enjoyed a timeless favorite: steamed creamy milk pudding. The pudding’s smooth, delicate texture and light sweetness provided the perfect contrast to the richness of our lunch, offering a refreshing and indulgent end to our meal. No trip to Hong Kong would be complete without a taste of its famous street food. We sampled the iconic curry fishballs, each bite bursting with bold, spicy flavors, and enjoyed a crispy, airy bubble tea egglet from Mammy Pancakes. The egglet’s delicate, golden exterior and chewy interior brought a nostalgic, satisfying end to our food journey, leaving us with a sense of contentment and a desire to return for more. #chinatrip #couplestrip #thingstodo #myitinerary #citydaytours #afternoonteatime #localfood

🍜 Yau Ma Tei specialty stone pot rice noodle shop Do colorful neon tubes remind you of something? What comes to my mind is the color of Hong Kong. Xiao Cao Shi Baguai in Yau Ma Tei combines traditional and creative Hong Kong-style steamed rice and stone pot rice noodles, as well as a series of snacks and skewers. The prices are affordable, making it a restaurant with a very high CP value in the area and a good place for my late-night snack. 🐟 Spicy Sichuan Peppercorn Crispy Fish Skin $42 The crispy cold fish skin has the aroma and numbing sensation brought by Sichuan peppercorns, and is rich in layers. It is a good choice as an appetizer. 🍜 Optional stone pot rice noodles (satay soup) from $32 There are 8 soup bases to choose from in the store, including the rare Bak Kut Teh soup base. Personally, I prefer the richer satay soup with a lot of gravy. The aroma of peanuts with a hint of spiciness is very tasty. 🍚 Steamed chicken with cotton fish maw, cordyceps and lotus leaf rice $62 The lotus leaf rice in cage is definitely a righteous choice, and the portion is generous. The white rice has the aroma of lotus leaves, is colorful, and looks attractive. 🍢 Skewers Chicken skewers $24 (2 skewers) Chicken wings $18 (1 skewer) Chicken Kidney Skewers $32 (2 skewers) Personally, I prefer crispy chicken kidneys with a prominent cumin aroma. Food and Beverage (Special Drinks with Meal + $18) 🍋 Duck Shit Lemon Tea 🍊 A bucket of fruit tea The drink is served in a large cup, with a sweet and sour taste, and goes perfectly with the delicious meal. 🍽 Restaurant: Xiaocao Shibaguai 🌐Address: G/F, Ning Building, 525-543A Nathan Road, Yau Ma Tei 🐮 #cowingEat in Yau Ma Tei #hkblogger #hkbloggers #hkigers #hkkol #852kol #hkinfluencer #hkfoodblogger #camerafoodfirst #foodie #foodie #yaumateifoodies #xiaocaoshibaoke #AprilGoodDestinations2025
