Hong Kong｜Traditional Festival｜Annual Sai Kung Tin Hau Festival 🏮2025

The annual Tin Hau birthday temple fair begins today and lasts for 5 days. The Tin Hau Temple in Sai Kung has a history of over 100 years (it has existed since the Qing Dynasty). It is the economic, educational and cultural center of Sai Kung Market. It was listed as a Grade II historic building in 2009. At the end of May every year, a temple fair is held. There are many festivals here, including Cantonese opera performances (I saw them training in the hot weather early in the morning, very dedicated), dragon and lion performances, stall games, temple fair food and dry goods market, Saigon Tin Hau Festival Exhibition, intangible cultural heritage guided tours and special souvenirs. This year's booths are similar to those of previous years, and several of the booths were still there last year. 🏮The most recommended experience is blowing sugar waves, which is very interesting and can be eaten while blowing sugar into waves. The price is also reasonable. There are several more stalls this year, such as knitted 🧶stuffed dolls and small pendants. (The small pendants are very cute and eye-catching, but for me who has bought the same pendant, its price is a bit expensive, otherwise it would be more attractive. 😅) This year, there are many stalls selling clay figures, such as Nezha and labubu, which are very popular recently. (Because I was following the kids, I didn’t ask the price 🙈.) 🏮🏮🏮Cantonese Opera Shengong Opera (It is the highlight of the Tin Hau Birthday.) A large theater with a capacity of 1,000 people. (What I admire most is the bamboo-building technique, which is really a major feature of Hong Kong.) Cantonese opera has daytime and nighttime performances.
